When the experiment went explosively awry, Parker pushed Lubisch out of the way and took the full force of the blast, becoming imbued with the Uni-Power as a result. Max Lubisch at Empire State University as the latter attempted to harness a mysterious cosmic energy he had detected - none other than the Enigma Force. Together with the Enigma Force, these heroes have saved all of existence several times over and rewrote Marvel history itself, and they will presumably continue to do so for decades to come. Over the years, countless seemingly ordinary individuals have employed the Uni-Power, but so have many household Marvel Comics names. Then, when the heroic job is done, the Enigma Force moves on to its next partner somewhere else in the vastness of space (though it has shown a clear preference and fondness for the heroes of Earth).īecoming Captain Universe entails a new costume, a new cosmic perspective, and a variable set of awe-inspiring superpowers depending on what the current situation calls for. Also known as the God of Light, the Enigma Force is a living being as old as the universe itself - best described as a “sentient symbiotic energy field.” Occasionally pitched as “The Hero That Could Be You,” the Enigma Force seeks out the heroic potential lurking within everyone and greatly enhances it through the Uni-Power, lending the nigh-omnipotent powers of Captain Universe to individuals in a position of opportunity to do great good - especially if that great good will protect the universe itself, or the precious life within it. Marvel’s Enigma Force, however, is a lot more than a mantle passed from one individual to another. A better question might be “Who has been Captain Universe?” and such a query would result in a long list that includes Captain Universe Spider-Man, Captain Universe Hulk, and Captain Universe Miles Morales. It's going to be exciting to see how that experience changes the Enigma Force - and Venom himself.Marvel Comics readers asking “Who is Captain Universe?” are starting their inquiries into the Enigma Force off on the wrong cosmically powered foot. And now it has come to Earth for what may well be its final confrontation with Knull, bonding with Eddie Brock himself to battle the King in Black. This has always been the Enigma Force's role, and it has gone to great lengths to achieve it, even creating the Microverse itself as a hiding place from agents of darkness. And so the Enigma Force transformed itself, evolving from a god to a symbiote, an Other who would bond with champions and transform them into beings who would stand against the dark. King in Black #4 reveals the ancient Enigma Force fought implacably in battle against Knull, but neither was truly able to defeat the other. Like Knull, it dates back to the beginning of the universe itself, but it is the yin to Knull's yang, a force of light and life. Now, at last, the true history of the Enigma Force has been revealed. Curiously enough, its preferred host appears to be the X-Men's X-23. Many superheroes have been bonded with the Enigma Force at one time or another, including the likes of Spider-Man, the Invisible Woman, and the Silver Surfer. The Enigma Force's idea of a priority situation can be very different to most people's, though it is as likely to help a child resist a bully as it is to empower the Juggernaut to repair the Earth's fracturing tectonic plates. It does so in the form of what is called the Uni-Power, transforming a host into Captain Universe. Although referred to as a "force," it has always appeared to have a sense of consciousness, and it interferes with human lives at times when they are faced with great choices. Finally, King in Black #4 has revealed this so-called "God of Light" is in fact. A God of Light." According to the Silver Surfer, all the powers that have to date managed to harm even Knull - like the might of All-Father Thor or the son of Eddie Brock, Dylan - are tied to this greater being. But King in Black has revealed there is a force that is equal and opposite to Knull - and the Silver Surfer has become its herald. " For every darkness, there is a light," the Silver Surfer reflects.
